San Antonio Theatres:
Now & Then
Past & Present

The Harlem Theatre was the third name change of this theatre. It started out as the Leon Theatre about 1940. The address was 728 Iowa St. on the east side of San Antonio. In 1945, S. K. Barry held the lease for about a year. After that year he went into the drive-in theatre business, purchasing the Bluebonnet Drive-In. Mr. Barry named the theatre the Ritz Theatre because he only had room for four letters on the marque. After Barry lost the lease it was later changed to the Harlem.
